PFJL Partners with RJRGLEANER for ‘Diaspora Fanatics’: A Game-Changer for Jamaican Sports
In an exciting development for sports fans, Professional Jamaica Football Limited (PFJL) has teamed up with the RJRGLEANER Communications Group to launch a new subscription channel called ‘Diaspora Fanatics’ on the popular One Spot Media platform. This initiative aims to bring not only the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) but also a variety of local sports to Jamaican fans living abroad.
Chris Williams, the Chairman of PFJL, expressed his enthusiasm about the partnership, noting that One Spot Media is the most downloaded app among the Jamaican diaspora. “This collaboration is a fantastic opportunity to expand the reach of our sports beyond Jamaica,” he said. “By teaming up with other sporting associations, we can provide a rich tapestry of local sporting content that will help these sports grow internationally.”
The channel is set to feature not just JPL matches but also analysis and commentary, with plans to include other sports like track and netball in the future. Williams mentioned that invitations have already been sent to key sporting bodies, including the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) and the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA). “We want to create a one-stop shop for all our amazing sports content,” he added.
Free Access and Future Plans
For the month of March, subscribers can enjoy the channel for free. Starting in April, a subscription fee of US$8.99 per month will apply, although fans in the region will not have access due to existing rights held by SportMax. Williams emphasized the significance of airing JPL games at this crucial stage of the league, which is heading into playoffs featuring the top six teams.
Fans outside the Caribbean can look forward to six games per week, with the playoffs also available in May. “If we don’t have additional content in June and July, we won’t charge for those months,” Williams explained. “We’ll restart charging in September when the league kicks off again.”
The channel officially launched on March 9, and Williams reported a surge in subscriptions. “Most of our diaspora fans already have the app, so it’s just a click away to access ‘Diaspora Fanatics’,” he said. The goal is to reach 5,000 subscribers by April, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive.
Engaging the Diaspora
This initiative is not just about streaming games; it’s also about engaging with the Jamaican diaspora. “We’re using this platform to connect with our fans,” Williams noted. Subscribers can look forward to live giveaways and activities sponsored by various brands, creating a vibrant community around the channel.
“It’s a massive game-changer,” Williams remarked, thanking the RJRGLEANER Group for their partnership. “We’ve been working on this for about nine months, and it’s finally coming to fruition.”
By uniting various sporting associations on the One Spot Media platform, Williams believes there will always be something for everyone. “This will not only provide continuous content but also lead to financial gains for all involved,” he said.
As the channel continues to grow, one can’t help but wonder: how will this new platform reshape the way Jamaicans engage with their beloved sports from afar? With the promise of more content and community engagement, the future looks bright for Jamaican sports fans living outside the island.
