America’s Got Talent (AGT) has always been a platform for extraordinary talent, and the third round of auditions for Season 20, aired on June 10, 2025, was no exception. Among the standout performances was that of Benjamin Hightower, who captivated both the audience and judges with his rendition of "Pink Pony Club" by Chappell Roan. His vibrant performance earned him a standing ovation and heartfelt praise from all four judges, marking a significant moment in his journey.
A Memorable Performance
Dressed in bright pink attire and boots, Benjamin took the stage with an infectious energy that immediately drew the audience in. His performance was not just about singing; it was a full-bodied expression of his passion for music. The atmosphere in the room was electric, and by the end of his act, the audience erupted in cheers, standing in appreciation of his talent.
Sofia Vergara, one of the judges, was particularly moved by Benjamin’s performance. “I loved it… it was the perfect audition. This is what you’re supposed to be doing,” she remarked, highlighting the emotional connection he established with the audience. Mel B echoed this sentiment, stating that Benjamin was “all in,” and praised his confidence and vibrant energy.
Howie Mandel described the performance as “a celebration,” noting how Benjamin’s personality shone throughout the act. A Journey of Courage and Passion
Before stepping onto the AGT stage, Benjamin shared his inspiring journey. Growing up in Alabama and Tennessee, he discovered his love for performing at a young age. A pivotal moment came when he attended a family trip to New York City and saw "Phantom of the Opera." That experience ignited a passion for music that would stay with him throughout his life.
However, after high school, Benjamin chose a different path and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He served for seven years, a decision he is proud of, as it allowed him to meet incredible people and serve his country. Yet, deep down, he felt a calling to pursue music.
“Through the Air Force, I met the most wonderful people and I got to serve my country. And I’m really proud of that, but in my heart I knew I wanted to do music and wanted to be on a stage like this,” he reflected.
Last year, Benjamin faced a turning point. He had to decide whether to continue his military career or take a leap of faith and pursue his dream of becoming a musician. “It was the hardest, scariest choice I’ve ever had to make,” he admitted. Ultimately, he chose to follow his passion, leading him to the AGT stage.
The Impact of "Pink Pony Club"
Benjamin’s performance of "Pink Pony Club" was not just a showcase of his vocal talent; it was a reflection of his personal journey and aspirations. The song’s message about following one’s dreams resonated deeply with him, making it a fitting choice for his audition.
As he moved forward in the competition, Benjamin quickly became one of the standout acts of the season, embodying the spirit of resilience and determination. His story and performance have inspired many, proving that it’s never too late to chase your dreams.
