Jamaica’s Bobsled Legend Chris Stokes to Be Honoured at Team Jamaica Bickle’s ‘Labor of Love 3.1’ Gala

In a celebration of athletic excellence and community spirit, Nelson Christian “Chris” Stokes, O.D., OLY, Ph.D., will be honoured at Team Jamaica Bickle’s (TJB) Labor of Love 3.1 Gala Fundraising Luncheon on Sunday, April 13, 2025. Stokes, a four-time Olympic bobsledder and the President of the Jamaica Bobsleigh Federation, is set to receive the TJB Pioneer in Athletics & Exemplary Leader in Sport Award. This recognition highlights his significant contributions to sports and the development of Caribbean athletes, particularly following Jamaica’s groundbreaking bobsled debut at the 1988 Winter Olympics.

The gala will take place at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury, New York, under the esteemed patronage of Jamaica’s Consul General to New York, the Hon. Alsion Wilson, O.D. Attendees can look forward to an afternoon filled with cocktails, networking opportunities, athlete tributes, prizes, and live entertainment—all aimed at supporting TJB’s mission to uplift young Caribbean athletes.

A Legacy of Support for Athletes

Since its inception in 1994, Team Jamaica Bickle has been a beacon of support for Jamaican and Caribbean athletes competing at the Penn Relays. Under the leadership of Founder and CEO Irwine Clare, Sr., O.D., TJB has provided essential services that include nutritious meals, physical therapy, chiropractic care, mentorship, and medical services. "We believe in the potential of our young athletes," Clare shared. "Our goal is to ensure they have everything they need to succeed, both on and off the track."

TJB’s commitment extends beyond hospitality; it advocates for the welfare and development of young athletes. This mission has been bolstered by partnerships with organizations like Caribbean Food Delights, led by Vincent HoSang, and the Team Jamaica Bickle Philadelphia Chapter. These collaborations have allowed TJB to expand its reach and impact.

Inspiring Words from Sandra Brunson

The event will feature keynote speaker Sandra Brunson, Chairperson of the Second Round Foundation. Her organization shares TJB’s mission of supporting and uplifting young athletes. "It’s vital that we invest in our youth," Brunson stated. "They are the future of sports in our communities, and we must provide them with the tools to thrive."

Attendees can also expect live entertainment, with a special guest artist set to perform, ensuring a vibrant atmosphere throughout the afternoon. Large screens will be installed to enhance the experience, allowing guests to fully engage with the presentations and performances.
