Jamaica Launches Tourism Entertainment Academy: Seeking Talents in Reggae, Jazz, and Comedy

Calling All Talented Jamaicans: Join the Tourism Entertainment Academy!

Exciting news for Jamaica’s vibrant arts scene! The Tourism Entertainment Academy (TEA) is on the lookout for talented individuals in reggae, jazz, and comedy. This government-backed initiative aims to enhance the entertainment aspect of Jamaica’s tourism industry, and it’s time for local stars to shine!

A Collaborative Effort

Spearheaded by the Ministry of Tourism and supported by the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF), the TEA is a partnership with the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts. This collaboration is all about empowering local entertainers with the skills they need to thrive—not just on stage, but in building sustainable careers within the tourism sector.

Audition Details

Mark your calendars! Auditions will be held from June 17 to 19 at the Grand-A-View Restaurant and Event Place in Montego Bay, running daily from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Each day is dedicated to a specific genre: reggae on June 17, jazz on June 18, and comedy on June 19.

“Jamaica is rich in talent, and this is a fantastic opportunity for our artists to showcase their skills,” says a representative from the Ministry of Tourism. “We want to see the best of what our culture has to offer.”

How to Register

Aspiring participants must register online at calendly.com/tourismenhancement/tea. If slots are full on your desired day, don’t fret! Just shoot an email to [email protected] to express your interest. It’s a chance to get your foot in the door and be part of something big!

What’s in Store for Selected Participants?

Once the auditions wrap up, selected performers will embark on a structured 20-week training program. This includes 10 weeks focused on cultural authenticity, performance techniques, and professional conduct. Following that, there will be five weeks of rehearsals and another five weeks of live performances.

Musicians will have the chance to learn up to 150 songs, expanding their repertoire to captivate audiences. Comedians will receive coaching in scriptwriting and delivery, honing their craft to bring laughter to the stage.

A Grand Showcase Awaits

The program will culminate in a grand showcase and graduation ceremony, where participants will receive certificates for their hard work. It’s not just about performing; it’s about building a community of skilled entertainers ready to take Jamaica’s tourism scene by storm.
